Hand Stretch Wrap
Fast, flexible and reliable—hand stretch wrap stabilises pallets, protects goods from dust and moisture, and keeps mixed loads together without machinery. Choose clear for quick identification or switch to black stretch wrap to conceal high-value items.
Build stronger pallets with edge protection and interlayer cardboard sheets. Seal outers with packing tape and choose pallet boxes for bulk or export consignments.
Why choose hand wrap?
Universal fit: suits any warehouse—no machine required.
Speed & control: wrap where the pallet sits; great for rework and mixed loads.
Cost-effective: low equipment outlay; extended core options remove the need for dispensers.
Typical applications
eCommerce dispatch, 3PL cross-docking, retail DCs, production lines, and returns cages. For discretion outdoors or in transit, use black film.
Formats & options
Clear cast film
Quiet unwind, excellent clarity and cling. Popular for routine palletising and quick visual checks of contents and barcodes.
Clear blown film
Higher puncture resistance and memory than cast; suits irregular or sharp loads. Louder unwind, but tougher in demanding conditions.
Pre-stretched & extended core
Thinner film stretched during manufacture to save effort and material. Extended core = built-in handles for mobile wrapping.
Common specs: 400–500 mm widths, 200–300 m lengths, and a range of microns (approx. 12–23 μm) to match your load.
Compare hand stretch options
| Type | Best For | Pros | Consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear cast | General DC use; ID checks | Quiet unwind, strong cling, barcode visibility | Less puncture resistance vs blown on sharp loads |
| Clear blown | Irregular/sharp pallets; long routes | Higher tear & puncture resistance, better memory | Noisier unwind; slightly less “glossy” finish |
| Pre-stretched | Reducing operator effort & film use | Lighter application, consistent wrap, potential material savings | Choose right gauge to maintain load retention |
| Extended core | Mobile wrapping without tools | No dispenser needed; quick to deploy | For very high volumes, a dispenser can be more ergonomic |
| Black hand wrap | Concealment & light protection | Hides contents, deters pilferage, dampens light | No visual checks—see black stretch |
How to get a reliable hand wrap
Square the load; start with 3–5 turns around the pallet base. Spiral up with ~50% overlap, adding edge protection on corners to avoid film cuts. Capture the top layer and finish with 2–3 passes. Interleave cardboard sheets for slippery packs or mixed layer heights.
Hand Stretch Wrap – Frequently Asked Questions
Light loads: ~12–15 μm; mixed/standard pallets: ~17–20 μm; heavy or irregular pallets: ~20–23 μm+. Blown grades excel on sharp edges.
Cast = quieter unwind, great cling and clarity for inspections. Blown = tougher, with better memory for challenging routes and irregular loads.
When you want to cut operator effort and reduce film usage. It’s stretched at manufacture to deliver consistent containment with less force.
Extended core rolls don’t need tools. For high volumes, pistol-grip dispensers improve ergonomics and consistency.
Choose clear for fast checks and barcode visibility. Choose black to conceal contents and dampen light exposure.
Add edge protection on corners, use interlayer cardboard sheets, and secure outers with packing tape. For bulk, switch to pallet boxes.
