What is small bubble wrap?
Bubble film with a smaller bubble profile (commonly around ~10 mm diameter, ~4 mm height) for close-fit cushioning. It wraps tightly around items, filling small voids and protecting delicate surfaces.
When to choose small bubbles
Best for light to medium-weight items, surface-sensitive goods, and products with fine edges. For larger voids or heavier objects, step up to large bubble.
Typical uses
eCommerce protection: cosmetics, accessories, components, boxed tech. Line cartons and wrap items individually to avoid abrasion.
Pick & pack stations: pre-cut sheets improve throughput and consistency.
Media & books: add a layer around corners and spines; combine with boxes or book wraps.
Electronics (non-ESD sensitive): use standard small bubbles; for boards & chips use anti-static pouches.
Benefits & features
Close-fit cushioning
Small cells conform to shape, reducing movement and surface rub.
Lightweight economy
Protects without pushing up courier weight bands.
Versatile formats
Available as rolls, sheets and ready-made pouches for speed.
Choosing the right option
| Option | Best for | Pros | Consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small Bubble (roll) | Everyday wraps & interleaving | Flexible, light, cost-effective | May need multiple layers for heavier goods |
| Large Bubble | Heavier items, bigger voids | More impact absorption per layer | Bulkier; less surface conformity |
| Bubble Pouches | Speed & repeatability | Fast to load, consistent protection | Fixed sizes; less flexible than sheets |
| Biodegradable | Eco-conscious brands | Environmental messaging | Check storage & disposal guidance |
| Anti-Static Pouches | ESD-sensitive electronics | Dissipative materials reduce static | Use with ESD procedures for full protection |
For the outer, right-size with Cardboard Boxes and seal using Packing Tape (H-tape pattern on base & top).
Packing tips
Bubbles inwards for surface grip; outer layer smooth side for sliding into cartons.
Layering strategy: one to two layers for light goods; more for fragile corners/edges. Combine with corner protectors or cardboard sheets as stiffeners.
Void control: fill gaps with scrunched bubble or paper; avoid item movement inside the box.
Combine with
Single/Double Wall Boxes for outer strength.
Packing Tape for secure seals; consider low-noise or solvent tape for cold stores.
Bubble Pouches for repeat SKUs, and Anti-Static for boards & components.
Small Bubble Wrap – FAQs
Small bubble conforms closely and protects surfaces; large bubble absorbs bigger impacts and fills voids. Choose based on item weight, fragility and gap size in the carton.
For light, non-fragile items, 1–2 layers is typical. For fragile corners/edges, add extra layers or combine with stiffeners or corner protectors.
Many areas accept LDPE at soft-plastic collection points. If end-of-life is a key priority, see our biodegradable bubble wrap range.
Generally bubbles face inward for better grip on the product and a smoother outer layer for easy packing.
Use bubble pouches when speed and consistency matter or when you pack the same SKU repeatedly. For ESD-sensitive items, choose anti-static versions.
Right-size with cardboard boxes; seal with packing tape using an H-tape pattern for strength.
