What are paper labels with string?
Also known as swing tags or tie-on labels, these are thick paper or card tags with a pre-punched hole and attached string (cotton, elastic or polypropylene). They tie to handles, garment loops, pallet cages, bottle necks and more—perfect when adhesive won’t bond or must be removable.
Why choose tie-on tags
Adhesive-free: no residue on textiles, wood, metal or rental assets.
Highly legible: smooth writing surface for pens and markers; accept stamps and stickers.
Strong attachment: reinforced eyelets and durable string resist tearing during handling.
Best-use scenarios
Warehousing & 3PL: pick-wave IDs, QA status, cross-dock notes; loop to pallet boxes and stillages.
Retail & eCommerce: price tags, care instructions, gifting notes on bottle boxes and hampers.
Manufacturing: job tickets and WIP routing where finishes reject adhesives.
Returns: tie-on RMA/condition tags alongside documents wallets.
Events & rentals: asset labels for cases, stands and cables—remove cleanly post-event.
Fragile goods: add handling notes with dispenser labels for extra visibility.
Choosing size, board & string type
| Tag size (approx.) | Board | Hole / Reinforcement | String type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 × 120 mm | White smooth card | 4–5 mm hole, no eyelet | Cotton string (pre-tied) | Retail swing tags, gift notes |
| 80 × 140 mm | Kraft (brown) | Reinforced eyelet | Polypropylene twine | Warehouse IDs, job tickets |
| 100 × 150 mm | Heavy duty card | Metallic eyelet | Elastic loop | Pallet/cage labelling, returns |
| Custom | White/Kraft, colours | Custom hole/eyelet | Custom lengths | Branding, special instructions |
For carrier barcodes or addresses, use with A4 Address Labels or 4″×6″ thermal labels.
How to apply for best results
1) Choose the tie point: handles, flute holes, or strap loops—avoid abrasion points.
2) Double-knot: for heavy items, use a surgeon’s knot or loop through twice.
3) Write first: add notes before tying to prevent wobble; use permanent marker for humidity resistance.
Pack smarter
Right-size outers with Single Wall Boxes or Double Wall Boxes. Stabilise with Cardboard Sheets, seal with Packing Tape, then add tie-on tags for instructions that stay readable.

Cotton looks premium and is easy to tie; polypropylene twine offers higher tensile strength; elastic loops make fast attachment to handles and bottle necks.
Choose reinforced (eyeletted) holes and double-knot for heavy items. Keep tags away from sharp edges or banding.
