Double Wall Multi-Depth Boxes
Flexible heavy-duty cartons with pre-scored heights. Our Double Wall Multi-Depth Boxes fold down to multiple fixed depths, cutting void space, reducing SKUs and improving protection for mixed-size shipments. Twin-flute strength with adjustable height in one box.
Choose multi depth cardboard boxes when you pack products of different heights. Horizontal score lines
let you reduce the box depth for a closer fit. This helps limit empty space, use less filling and keep
fewer box sizes in stock.
These multi-depth cardboard boxes combine an adjustable height with the strength of double wall board.
They suit ecommerce orders, warehouses, distribution centres and businesses with changing packing needs.
How do multi depth boxes work?
Each box has score lines at fixed heights. Place your product inside and select the nearest score
above it. Cut the corners down to that line, fold the sides and seal the box.
The length and width remain the same. Only the height changes. This gives you several packing
depths from one box size.
Why choose double wall multi-depth?
One box, multiple heights. Multi-depth boxes can reduce void fill, help lower
parcel volume and allow you to keep fewer carton sizes in stock.
A double wall cardboard box uses two fluted layers between three liners. This double flute corrugated
construction offers more strength than a standard single wall carton and is well suited to heavier,
fragile and multi-item orders.
What can multi-depth boxes be used for?
Ecommerce & fulfilment: ideal for pick-and-pack operations where order heights
change from one shipment to the next.
Tools, components & small appliances: double wall construction provides
additional support for denser products.
Fragile homeware: adjust the carton height while leaving enough room for suitable
protective cushioning.
Multi-item orders & returns: create a closer fit around changing product
combinations and help reduce movement.
Warehouse picking & packing: fewer carton sizes can simplify stock management,
purchasing and packing operations.
Pallet loads: maintain a consistent length and width while adjusting the height
to suit different loads.
Benefits of multi-depth cardboard boxes
Reduce empty space
Adjusting the height creates a closer fit around your products. Less empty space means you may need
less void fill or other protective material.
Store fewer box sizes
One adjustable carton can replace several fixed-height cardboard boxes. This simplifies ordering
and frees up valuable storage space.
Protect heavier products
Double wall board provides better support for heavier, fragile or multi-item orders. It also handles
stacking and repeated movement more effectively.
Lower packing costs
Using fewer carton sizes can make purchasing and storage more cost effective. A closer fit may also
reduce parcel volume and delivery charges.
Reduce packaging waste
Using less filling can support a more eco friendly packing process. Corrugated cardboard can also
enter normal cardboard recycling after use.
Double wall strength
Twin flutes improve compression and puncture resistance, providing additional rigidity for stacking,
heavier loads and demanding delivery routes.
Choosing the correct size
Measure the internal length, width and height of your product. Select a footprint that fits its longest
and widest points.
Choose the lowest score line that leaves enough room for any cushioning. Add
paper void fill,
bubble wrap
or another suitable material if the item could move during delivery.
Seal the base before packing. After adjusting the height, close the top and use strong
packing tape
across the centre and outer edges.
Practical packing tips
Choose the shallowest suitable score while still leaving enough room to protect
the contents. This helps reduce unnecessary empty space and can help control volumetric parcel size.
Fragile goods should still be properly cushioned. Adjusting the box height reduces excess space,
but it does not remove the need for protective packaging where required.
For pallet stacking, keeping a consistent footprint can make loads easier to organise.
Cardboard layer pads
can also be used between tiers where additional stability is needed.
Typical multi-depth score options
The number and position of score lines varies between products. The examples below illustrate common
multi-depth configurations. Always check the individual product information for the exact sizes and
score lines available.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do multi-depth score lines work?
Each box has score lines at fixed heights. Select the nearest suitable score above your product,
cut the corners down to the line, fold the sides and seal the box. The length and width stay the
same while the height is reduced.
Will adjusting the height weaken the box?
No. The score lines help you create a clean fold. The twin-flute board continues to support the
contents when you fold it correctly.
What products are multi-depth boxes suitable for?
They work well for ecommerce orders with different product combinations, tools, components,
small appliances, fragile homeware, multi-item orders and warehouse picking and packing.
Do I still need protective packaging?
Fragile products may still need cushioning. Use enough material to prevent movement without
leaving unnecessary empty space.
How many depths does each box provide?
The number of score lines varies between products. Check the individual product details before
ordering to confirm the exact depths available.
Are multi-depth cardboard boxes recyclable?
Yes. Corrugated cardboard is widely recyclable. Remove tape and other non-paper materials where
possible before recycling.
Are custom options available?
Pack Exact may be able to supply custom sizes and custom printed cartons for larger or specialist
orders.
